Fitness in the Real World

I love P90X. I love, love, love it. And nobody pays me to tell you that, either.

When I can't do P90X I try to get on the Cellercizer (the official but noisy site with whom I have no relationship) and bounce aggressively for 8-10 minutes with a little warm up and warm down. It's something. And something is more than nothing.

When I can't do that I feel like a mushy thing all day, but I'm vertical and therefore thankful.

Due to two broken toes and a bruised bone on the arch of one foot, in succession (I live in the land of flip-flops), it has taken me 16 months to do 60 proper workouts with P90X. That is a long time. And hardly even qualifies as P90X. But that means I'm two thirds through the Lean program! That means when I check off the next box, I'll be in Phase III! So what if it's taken me 16 months. I can say I do P90X, because I do.

When you commit to working out, there will be days when you hurt. There will be days when you can't believe how much good food you can eat and still be hungry. There will be days when 30 minutes of lamely attempting a workout is as good as it gets. There will be days when you're sore or just not up to it. But every time you get into those clothes and get out that door or on that mat you're getting one more star on your workout chart. I love writing the workout number and date in the little P90X box. It's so satisfying to see the progress. And progress is good.

Every time you get up and do some kind of movement, you're fulfilling your body's ancient expectation to move. It all adds up to a workout attitude. Your body will thank you. You may even get a muscle or two. You'll look and feel better in your body and in your clothes (and out of them!). And if you keep getting back up and back to it, you can even be a muscle monstah like me! Grr.
